Our Murano glass fruit is handmade, blown glass from the island of Murano. This blown glass pear starts from glass cane that is manipulated over a torch; heating and stretching and then blowing into the molten glass to shape. The artist then heats the corresponding colored cane to create the “Macchie” (stains or spots) to paint spots onto the pear in molten glass. This Macchia or “stained” pear has the color added just before it is fired in a furnace and 18k gold foil is applied giving it a regal and gilded effect.
